Bev Brune works at the cafeteria down the street from the downtown branch office of Caged Electronic Data Inc. where Gene and Cotton do their office work (paperwork, meetings, etc.) and she is one of the nicest people one could ever hope to meet. She gets along with everybody, and you'd have to really work at it to make her mad. (If you're dumb enough to try, though, you'll be sorry.) Bev was one of the folks who were present when Cotton discovered the effects of CoffeeČ. She works hard at her job, and is trying to put her teenage daughter through Furriston City College.

Ed Cetera is one of those strange anomalies of the world: He's someone who has an above average technical ability, but has absolutely no motivation to use it. Almost incredibly lazy most of the time, he prefers to scrape by at his job doing the absolute bare minimum amount of work necessary to keep it. When he is placed in sink-or-swim situations where he MUST apply his talent, he's capable of doing unbelievably well. He could easily rise to a prominent technical position with only a little more effort. He refuses, however, to push himself even *that* far and apparently prefers to be regarded as lazy. This is more than a little frustrating to his co-workers.

Ernie Hare is a distant cousin of Cotton Taylor, and they spent much of their respective childhoods together growing up in Furriston. Cotton, in fact, regards Ernie as sort of an 'older brother'. Unfortunately for Ernie, his branch of the family has a congenital susceptibility to diseases that affect the nervous system. Most of Ernie's late teenaged years were spent in braces and on crutches, and though he can still stand for brief periods nowadays, he mostly gets around in a wheelchair. Despite this (or, perhaps, in disregard of this) Ernie puts his prodigious skills as a programmer and technical researcher to full use at Furriston City College. And when Ernie and Cotton get together, they are capable of raising just as much of a ruckus as they did when they were growing up.
Reptilian aide to Mayor Clydesdale. First appearance: 10-6-2000
I'Brolent works for the Mayor's office as an aide and security officer. He was assigned, along with his partner Martin Kanine, to keep an eye on Cotton Taylor and his unique abilities. I'Brolent belongs to the reptile tribe I'Brel (many reptile species in Furriston are organized in tribal societies) and his upbringing was one of adherance to cultural laws and education. For this reason, he has little tolerance with those who disregard the law and, unlike his partner, regards wrongdoing as reprehensible by its very nature. To be able to choose between right and wrong and to knowingly choose to do wrong is not only breaking the law, but a crime against intelligence itself.

Martin Kanine works for the Mayor's office as an aide and security officer. He was assigned, along with his partner I'Brolent, to keep an eye on Cotton Taylor and his unique abilities. Martin tends to approach life with a rather pragmatic frame of mind, regarding his job, and the fact that he has to deal with some rough types in an equally rough manner as part of that job, as just one of those inevitable things. Not everyone is going to play by the rules, as he sees it, and since they won't, you gotta have referees.
